Position Summary:

Our Sr. Manager Data and Analytics Platforms (MDA) defines the data and analytics (D&A) strategy aligned to our organizational objectives and data governance program.  The MDA will lead the data and analytics team and lead in the planning, evaluating, and selecting the right business intelligence capabilities for the enterprise enabling distributed analytics staff to have the best D&A skills, processes, and technologies possible.  The Sr. MDA serves as an internal consultant, advisor and key influencer to with other Line of Business and IT teams to identify business opportunities, develop and deliver enterprise-wide solutions for complex data challenges, to derive insights, improve decision making, and automate processes.  Overall accountable to drive and influence  the evolution of data from information to intelligence

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Influential Thought Leader: Effective use of professional experiences complemented by industry data experts to proactively identify business value unlocked by data & analytics.  Strong, credible leader with the ability to influence across Executive levels of our business and IT functions with the goal of advancing our business.  Hunger for continuous learning with ability to apply learnings to transform data into competitive value for our organization.
  • Transformational Change Agent:  Proven experience transforming IT D&A organizations – planning & executing cultural shifts, skills modernization, and driving different behaviors to help the company win.  
  • Identifying and Defining D&A Investments: Works with business and IT leaders to identify areas of technical needs for future data science capabilities. Drives the development and deployment of the data and analytics platform.  Identifies and prioritizes business projects and enterprise data initiatives utilizing data science capabilities.
  • Defining D&A Strategy: Identifies and standardizes the use and governance of data and analytics.  This includes the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, analytics applications and automated decision making.  Creates value by unlocking and sharing data and information in ways which will spur innovation.
  • Collaborates with Data Governance: Cascades from data strategy into data governance to promote data access, quality, and analytical capability.  Strives to reduce the cost of managing data and increase the value of the data.
  • Advising and Reporting: Serves as the Data Analytics technical advisor.  Represents the D&A team at leadership meetings and conferences.  Develops and gives oral presentations on the power and value of data.  Leads and/or serves on steering committees and helps leadership use its data effectively at these meetings.

  • Identifying Opportunities for New Data Products: Lead strategy development for D&A products to ensure the program becomes pervasive throughout the organization and helps enable new revenue streams.  To support these endeavors,  ensure that digital products are released on time, on budget and with high quality. Be a champion for the information services and related D&A capabilities.
  • Challenge associates to improve and provide opportunities to assist them in reaching their potential Educates associates to understand and achieve individual, company and organizational goals through:

  • Uses the Swagelok Competency Inventory as a self-assessment guide for developing job competencies and personal improvement
  • Conducts interviews, hires new staff, and provides associate orientation (as needed).
  • Handles staff scheduling, including: work assignments, training, vacations, work hours, off-hours support, and backups for absent associates.
  • Approves associate expense reports and purchase requests within company guidelines
  • Handles additional responsibilities related to various systems and technologies as the need arises.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science or related fields
  • Demonstrated experience transforming organizations to self-service analytics and cloud-based architectures in support of big data & analytics for a connected enterprise
  • 10+ years of extensive implementation and support skills in one or more applications supporting the business areas
  • 4+ years leading projects
  • Excellent communication skills, presentation skills, and computer skills
  • Demonstrated experience with developing data strategy, policies, and procedures, as well as successfully executing programs that meet or exceed expectations in a dynamic environment; experience creating tools and capabilities to assist with data discovery & collaboration, ensure data quality, and to load, clean, enrich, manage, and share data and metadata from a variety of sources
  • Knowledge of Systems Analysis, software development and project management
  • Ability to define strategic initiatives and oversee the development of long-term plans and proposals
  • Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment
  • Ability to effectively coordinate, allocate, and manage resources and projects throughout multiple teams
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the fields of data management and data analytics
  • Information management and quantitative skills, including working knowledge of IT infrastructure, various technologies/platforms, and enterprise-specific vendor solutions
  • Industry-specific knowledge of data security protocols, policies, and regulations
  • Exceptional analytical, written, oral, and presentation skills with proven track record of effectively communicating actionable insights
  • Exemplary diplomatic skills and ability to help senior business leaders see value, opportunities, and risks beyond their own area of expertise
  • Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of administrative issues and solutions
