Swagelok Job Posting Description

Position Summary:
This position requires a highly skilled, innovative and educated individual to serve as the leader of technology research and development efforts in advance of new product development projects.  The position also requires extensive knowledge and understanding in a technical area as the subject matter expert within the company. Incumbents are expected to influence industry and market trends and the associated impacts on Swagelok. A general dissatisfaction with the status quo is also required.  Additional responsibilities include providing immediate technical assistance and guidance throughout the company as well as to distributors and customers.

Essential roles and responsibilities:

  • Direct activities of engineers and technicians involved in the research and development of product or process technology in advance of new product development projects.
  • Collaborate with Swagelok marketing, business units, distributors, and customers to identify and chart technology and product development opportunities.
  • Serve as an intradepartmental technical expert and advisor.   Work with others in the company to solve technical problems.  
  • Gain recognition within target markets as a technical expert and thought leader and establish a network of relationships with customer/industry technical leaders.  Collaborate with network to enable Swagelok to provide industry leading products and solutions.
  • Utilize strong product and applications knowledge when identifying solutions for customer needs.
  • Use state of the art knowledge and methods to interpret patterns and trends in technical and market data; integrating lessons from multiple industries and markets to create innovative solutions.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders from across the industry to identify and solve industry wide problems.
  • Delivers innovative solutions that go beyond the current state of the art.

 

Disciplined Problem Solving

  • An expert in applying a structured approach to analyzing and addressing root causes of performance deficiencies with preventive action.
  • Includes a knowledge of statistics, root cause analysis, DOE, etc.
  • An expert in the process of analyzing products returned and responding to customers.

 

Project Management

  • Expertise in project planning, structure and execution, developing resource estimates, creating schedules with contingency plans, and proactive risk management.
  • Includes the knowledge of miscellaneous software and training programs, and an understanding of team dynamics.

 

Intellectual Property

  • Ability to identify and act upon situations in order to protect the intellectual assets of Swagelok.

 

Modeling (Drafting) and Computer Aided Engineering

  • Knowledge in the methods and software used to create, assess, and archive our product designs that is sufficient to effectively collaborate with others proficient in this area.
  • Knowledge in various computer aided engineering techniques (FEA, CFD) sufficient to effectively collaborate with others proficient in this area and interpret, evaluate, and weigh analytical results.

 

Design Process

  • Knowledge of the process of taking a product concept to mass production.
  • Includes knowledge of brainstorming, stress analysis, stack-ups, reliability testing, concurrent engineering, and product verification and validation.

 

Lab Evaluations

  • An expert in the laboratory evaluation processes and test equipment used to assess the performance of products at all stages of the life cycle.
  • Expert in product and component testing, analysis techniques, and analytical tools.

Education and/or Work Experience:
 

Required:

  • MS in engineering or related technical field

Preferred:

  • PhD / advanced college degree in a technical discipline or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Recognized as a technical expert with demonstrated breadth and depth of knowledge.
  • 10+ years of experience in the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of a variety of sciences and technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrates initiative and drive.  Set and achieves goals and is focused on outcome. 
  • Track record of delivering new technology that can successfully move from concept to new product introduction.
  • Is accountable for results.
  • Understands the big picture and demonstrates strategic vision.
  • Able to demonstrate both breadth and depth of technical knowledge, insight, and ability.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership.  Inspires and mentors others.
  • Works effectively in a team environment.

  • Able to tailor message and presentation to meet the needs of varied audiences.

  • Possesses advanced problem solving and significant decision making abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong computer and office software skills.
  • Expert in product testing and analysis.
  • Able to conduct advanced technical research in a variety of disciplines.
  • Advanced (DOE, Six Sigma) problem-solving experience
