Principal Materials Engineer, Position Summary:


Can you drive innovation while supporting cross-functional business initiatives?  A 75 year leader in producing valve and fitting solutions for multiple applications is seeking a Principal Materials Engineer to push boundaries and drive innovative solutions for its line of professional products.   We’re growing and building teams to make an impact in our business.  The Principal Materials Engineer will be responsible for developing and leading research projects and improving a wide range of products and raw materials for the Semiconductor, Oil & Gas, and Alternative Fuels industries.  This role independently studies alloy properties to support new development of products and to enhance existing ones.  This position acts as a technical resource and subject matter expert for materials-related selection and providing immediate technical guidance throughout the company as well as to the global distributor and customer community. 



 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Advanced knowledge of materials science, chemistry, and other common engineering disciplines. 
•    Experience working with high nickel, stainless steel, and related engineering alloys.
•    Experience with failure analysis/investigations, materials characterization including metallography, and using material characterization tools to establish relationship between microstructure-property-performance for                 materials and products.  
•    Demonstrated history of creativity and innovative solutions by steering scientific approach with business acumen to create new value (aka – any customer solutions, patents, trade secrets, etc.)
•    Use project management methods to plan and complete assignments on schedule and on budget and direct or coordinate activities of functional area as part of a corporate cross-functional project. 
•    Uses advanced problem-solving techniques/methods and proven technology to make decisions, both within groups and independently.
•    Exhibits a working knowledge of industry standards and organizations (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO/EN) that will be used to create/revise internal material specifications and procedures.
•    Mentors and coaches others including engineers and technicians.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

•    Advanced Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
•    10+ years of on-the-job industrial experience or equivalent developmental experience in a professional position.
