Position Summary: 

At this level the associate has demonstrated the proficiency to perform machining functions with minimal guidance or help from a trainer or supervisor.  The associate is confident and will make the proper choices to complete a part in the most efficient and economical manner.  The Level 3 machinist will select the appropriate fixturing, the proper cutting tools, and prepare a CNC program, calculating the correct speeds and feeds for the work material.  The associate is able to recognize and solve non-routine problems quickly.  Equipment used includes band saws, Bridgeport milling machines, engine lathes, simple CNC lathes and a variety of bench equipment.  Typical work performed includes modification of existing products or creation of new components having a low level of complexity.   

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Using a blueprint, demonstrates the ability to create a process layout, select the appropriate equipment and complete the conversion of raw material into a finished part. Generally works with low complexity part geometries or will modify existing product adding special details per a customer order. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform machining functions on a variety of equipment with minimal help or guidance. 

  • Has knowledge of most standard Swagelok products and can identify critical features and finish requirements. 

  • Has a general knowledge of most inspection equipment and demonstrates the ability to utilize it to inspect a broad range of parts. 

  • Understands general part fixturing techniques and demonstrates safe work holding methods. 

  • Understands what cutting tools are available and selects the proper tooling for the job.  

  • Demonstrates safe work habits considering personal safety and also the safety of others working in the area. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to complete work orders within the estimated time on a consistent basis with little or no help from others.   

  • Utilizes the schedule to make work selection decisions.   

  • Utilizes Lean Tools to offer ideas and solutions with involvement of the P/M Team. 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 


  • High school diploma  

  • External applicants must have a minimum of 4 years of applicable machining experience.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. 

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift Kegs and Boxes on a regular basis between 25 - 35 pounds and occasionally between 35 - 50 pounds. Considerable standing, stooping and bending is required. 

  • May be required to pass pre-employment and annual Vision Acuity tests.
