Position Summary

The role of the Data Steward is to ensure the organization has trusted and business ready master data that is valid, accurate, and complete in order to support effective business processes and business decisions.  This is accomplished through assessment & implementation of Swagelok’s master data create, change, and delete requests, supporting projects impacting master data, and ensuring data quality through master data profiling.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assess and implement Swagelok’s master data create, change, and delete requests in a timely manner, meeting service level expectations. Ensure the appropriateness of requests based on data requirements. Put effective implementation plans in place to ensure no disruptions to business operations or analytics.


  • Assess and implement Swagelok’s master data create, change, delete requests for mass updates


  • Act as a “gatekeeper” to ensure all required information is gathered, accurate and complete prior to data or document request execution.


  • Collaborate effectively with the business to identify and resolve master data and document issues related to uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness that impact business processes and analytics.


  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to capture data quality validation requirements needed to develop and continuously execute master data profiling jobs which ensure critical data meets the needs of the business.


  • Develop simple to moderate profiling jobs by defining the data quality validation rules and thresholds for critical data elements and applying business data quality guidelines to ensure appropriate coverage.


  • Analyze and conduct assessments on incorrect data from profiling and facilitate the identification of the root cause, containment, cleansing, and development of mitigation strategies. Ensure implementation of holistic solutions for improved data quality.


  • Monitor overall data quality for assigned process streams and ensure consistency with established governance policies 


  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert with regard to the identification and application of data validation requirements within assigned enterprise process stream. Make suggestions and provide guidance as necessary to ensure adequate coverage of data quality on critical data.


  • Act as an associate liaison and active team member for assigned projects and initiatives across multiple functional areas relating to Master Data Management, Document Management, Meta Data Management, and Data Quality for business processes and analytics.


  • Communicate Master Data Management processes, practices and expectations to stakeholders.


  • Develop simple data quality validation solutions for projects or LOB requests. Continuously ensure data quality validations are implemented and performing as designed and intended.


  • Work with team members to continually refine and improve processes related to data entry and document and data management. Help to enhance department efficiency through leading process improvements and making recommendations to IS about the development of automated solutions.


  • Create and maintain department specific documentation and standard work.


  • Consistently populate and maintain metadata content and support continued development or metadata management.


  • Ensure adherence to governance policies. Escalate issues in the appropriate forums. Work cross functionally to drive resolutions and develop governance solutions.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements 


  • High school education or GED
  • Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of engineering, supply chain, planning, data management or other relevant business process experience. 
  • 3+ years of experience using SAP or related systems
  • Ability to multi-task, work in teams, and use multiple systems and processes to handle changing requirements
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite



  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to understand and investigate topics related to multiple business areas
  • Interest in data management and governance
