Product Manager - semiconductor

Global, growing, private $2B manufacturer is seeking an influential, industry experienced resource to lead our innovation and new product strategic roadmaps for our semi-conductor high purity product line. This is a premier product line for Swagelok.

 

Position Summary:

Leads Marketing, Communications, Operations, and Engineering groups to provide the vision, guidance, and direction to develop and execute strategic plans for high purity product lines focused on the semiconductor market. The Product Manager collaborates with market managers, distributors, and end customers to map technology trends in each product space to determine the product or service requirements desired by the buyers of the product to create and maintain a lead market position.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Product and Market Assessments

  • Develop and maintain clear understanding of buying behaviors, industry drivers, pricing trends, and competitor information.
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging that differentiates assigned products in the market.
  • Specify requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers.

Planning

  • Responsible for developing yearly business plans that meet growth and profitability goals for multiple product lines. Provide product line sales forecasts which include implementation of tracking and performance metrics to ensure deliverables are achieved.
  • Leads new product commercialization efforts.  Recommends and leads product portfolio projects that improve profitability, efficiency and returns.  Understands value-based pricing and portfolio interdependencies.
  • Lead product management team to provide vision and guidance in the formulation, development, and implementation of new product strategy.
  • Develops and refines roadmap with input from broader organization and VOC.  Recommends growth and technology exploration projects.
  • Uses data and KPI's to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities.  Leads development of product line forecast and supports usage by the wider organization.

Sales and Product Development

  • Leads cross-functional teams within marketing, customer service, operations, and engineering to provide for tactical sales plan execution.
  • Provides vision and direction to internal and distributor organizations, aligning customer needs to profitability.  Ability to influence and communicate key decisions.
  • Uses significant understanding of customer needs and experiences to direct product development efforts and beta customer engagements.
  • Leads VOC and customer insight efforts, assuring team understands and uses best practices. Develops product strategies using ANPS commercialization process.
  • Manage the product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.
  • Develop and implement a go-to-market plan while working with various departments to execute.
  • Responsible for global pricing, offering, promotions, and incentives for target products.
  • Identify and develop sales tools and collateral to assist the sales force in achieving sales plans
  • Develop and execute training on the value proposition of assigned products.
  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, introductions, and post launch activities of new products relating to the target market.

Travel: Travel of 20% - 40% is required (including international)

 

Education and/or work experience:

Education:  BS/BA in Business, Marketing, or Technical Field.  MBA recommended.

Experience:  A minimum of five (5) years’ experience with increasing leadership responsibilities in business-to-business sales for specific product line segments is required.  In-depth knowledge of product segment marketing including customers, suppliers, key personnel, applications and technology preferred.

Demonstrated experience in understanding and influencing complex customer structures and driving internal cross-functional activities to meet customer expectations.

Skills:

  • Ability to assimilate and synthesize market related information from a variety of sources into a cohesive plan.
  • Excellent oral and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and influence a wide variety of people, including distributors, customers, internal departments, and senior management.
  • Ability to manage and work effectively within a matrix organization – quick information assimilation and understanding of contextual implications, appropriate project prioritization, effective communications, and leadership through influence.

 

Critical competencies:  

Must have strong influence and decision making skills/abilities; vision, service orientation, organizational awareness.
