Position Summary:
Manages the Product Compliance and Certifications, groups. Collaborates with the Product and Market managers and leverages insight from Swagelok Sales and Service Centers (SSCs) and third party approval agencies, to provide strategic direction and coordination around product and quality system compliance. Ensures the proper application of compliance engineering practices, procedures, and criteria while ensuring the project goals of cost, quality, and timeliness are met. Collaborates with Product and Market Manager teams to provide strategic direction on standards management and global participation for Swagelok on standards committees. Ensures that the compliance and certification’s business processes align with changing needs of the customers, SSCs and overall organization.
Responsible for assuring the appropriate technical skills, personal development, and supporting tools are present in the department to support current and future project needs. Interacts with multiple sites and many levels of leadership while devising new approaches to problems encountered. Interacts with government agencies globally, Swagelok Sales and Service Centers, and customers to discuss compliance needs, processes, and to construct business cases.
Essential Duties & Responsibilites:
Leadership
- Gathers business insight from key stakeholders and helps to influence Swagelok’s strategic direction around product and quality system compliance, certifications and industry standards committee participation.
- Ensures that the compliance and quality system portfolio of approvals is aligned with the product and market strategies set to achieve Swagelok growth targets.
- Assists associates with the development of challenging goals. Coaches associates in the areas of both personal and overall career development.
- Drives accountability for business performance through both direct and informal leadership.
- Evaluates performance and development progress of direct reports and makes compensation recommendations. Addresses conflict and performance issues.
- Creates and maintains an environment that promotes creativity, teamwork and efficiency leveraging collaboration, inclusion and diversity.
- Manages staffing requirements to support project workload through associate development and new hires. Balances resources within, and between departments based on changing priorities. Assists engineers and technicians in the prioritization of tasks and activities for multiple projects.

- Project – Assists the team leader(s) with directing resources towards the attainment of goals associated with improving cost, quality, and timeliness. Assists with the appropriate application of the Product and Process Development process and engineering tools.
- Strategic – Recommends strategy for business processes, global standards participation and compliance to industry focused product and quality system approvals
- Strategic – Drives the development, implementation, and/or execution of department related strategic objectives.
- Strategic- Drives continuous improvement in both the compliance and certifications business processes to align with customer, sales and service center and organizational needs.
- Planning / Prioritization – Participates in the prioritization of project and department activities towards department, Engineering, and company objectives.
- Standardization / Efficiency – Develops and promotes the utilization of and adherence to standard work.
- Budgeting – Constructs and responsible for the departmental budget and targets, analyzes variances, and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
- Interfaces with upper management to implement and/or make technical decisions, guide projects, and to provide input to complex personnel issues.
- Responsible for justifying purchase of new capital equipment, hardware or software and for assuring that proper systems are deployed and maintenance is performed.
- Communicates and enforces all Swagelok policies.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Required:
Education:
4-year degree in an engineering/technical/ or business management disciplines with continuing education.
Masters level degree (prefer MBA) or equivalent is encouraged.
Experience:
Prior supervisor and/or management experience
Demonstrated leadership (hiring, motivating, coaching, team building, project management, strategy)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and across the organization to achieve company/department goals
Familiarity with Product & Process Development processes
Familiarity with Quality Assurance Systems, Auditing and related Processes
Skills/Knowledge:
Strategic thinking to insure solutions and compliance processes are aligned with customer requirements and sustainable to support future business needs.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex problems.
Excellent problem solving skills including use of data based decision making (Business Case Analysis, DPS, DoE)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Business Acumen and ability to build consensus and navigate thru Swagelok hierarchy
Solid project management experience
MS-Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Strong interest in improving efficiencies of processes, including automation solutions
Preferred:
Fundamental knowledge of product and type approvals processes (globally)
Demonstrated experience building strategic relationships and working closely with outside government and auditing agencies.
Fundamental knowledge of ASME B31 Process and Power piping codes
Fundamental knowledge of ASME BPV Sec III Nuclear Component Design and Quality
Knowledge of complex and applied engineering and product compliance principles highly desirable
Knowledge of broad range of fluid system components highly desirable
Experience or ability to become quickly familiar with compliance systems / approvals and laws, and make recommendations on best path of compliance
Some experience desirable in standards committee participation
