Position Summary:

As a key member of the Operations leadership team, executes the strategic direction for the department based on corporate and line of business initiatives. Results will be recognized through sustained accomplishments to quality, cost, and delivery goals.  Effectively develops clear and specific project objectives for targeted opportunities. Dynamically leads staff to achieve the stated project deliverables in coordination with quality and manufacturing management along with other engineering groups.  Directs resources toward the application of advanced approaches and technologies to significantly improve processes and/or systems. Manages engineering supervisors, engineers, technicians and/or other technical associates.  Interacts with multiple sites and levels of leadership while devising new approaches to problems encountered.  Responsible for assuring the appropriate skills and supporting tools are present in the department to support current and future operational and technical needs. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages group budget including establishment, meeting targets, analyzing variances, and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Works with business manager and product manager to prioritize key projects and to deliver the plan.
  • Assist with strategic planning for functional area, establish objectives and define and prioritize key projects to support the plan.
  • Coordinate with other functional supervisors and managers to plan projects and allocate resources.
  • Communicate departmental project status to upper-level management
  • Motivates the team through demonstrated and inspiring leadership.
  • As a leader, you are expected to know, enforce, and appropriately escalate all Swagelok associate policies.
  • Develops the abilities of engineers and supervisors and assists with engineering and operations performance planning and personnel issues.

 

Approximate # of direct/indirect reports:   Approximate # of direct reports (if applicable) – 1 to 2 engineering supervisors; Approximate # of indirect reports 10-30 engineers and technicians

 

 

 

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

 

Required:

Education: 

•           BS degree in a technical discipline (engineering degree preferred). Appropriate continuous education.  Master’s degree or equivalent skills and experience is encouraged.

 

Experience: 

•           5-10 years of experience in a technical field (may vary depending on area). Requires knowledge of the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines. 

 

Skills/Knowledge: 

•           Proven abilities in leadership including evaluating, encouraging, motivating,

disciplining and awarding others.  Applies experience and knowledge at an organization level.  Demonstrates the ability to complete major and complex projects and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  Advanced problem solving and significant decision-making abilities.  Strong project management/product development skills.  Excellent oral and written communication.  Excellent computer and typical office software skills.
