This position leads advanced manufacturing technology R&D efforts aligned with our global production strategies.  Develops departmental goals in conjunction with Engineering leadership.  Plans and performs multiple assignments of significantly complex scope with minimal guidance and independently evaluates, selects, and applies both standard and novel engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.  Utilizes project management methods to complete assignments, or to plan, direct, and coordinate activities.  Assignment objectives may be broad, requiring critical thinking, personal insight, and a high level of cross-functional collaboration to establish objectives and achieve milestones.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, Develops, and supports the selection of new equipment and new processes across the enterprise.
  • Applies both standard and advanced engineering techniques to drive reductions in cost while ensuring high quality and exceptional service
  • Independently develops clear and specific objectives for given assignments that may require the investigation of several alternative solutions
  • Contributes to long-term thinking and planning for improvement
  • Develops expertise as an SME on manufacturing equipment
  • Trains, develops, and mentors other engineers and technicians in the use of good engineering practices.
  • Applies manufacturing expertise to lead moderate to large scope assessments of new manufacturing equipment or processes. Specific equipment platforms could include:
    • Multi-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers
    • Mid to high volume transfer machines
    • Single-, twin-, and multi-spindle lathes (CNC and conventional)
    • Inspection systems (CMM, digital comparator, vision systems, etc.)
    • Full or semi-automated assembly and product test equipment
  • Evaluates current manufacturing equipment and processes and justifies recommendations for future solutions based on key factors like part cost, net present value, etc.
  • Recommends and/or creates and executes plans for process improvements and new processes based on expected results
  • Identify, create, and apply best practices and standards within the operations group.
  • Provide analytical problem solving and process troubleshooting support in area of expertise
  • Analyzes or interprets process changes in a complex manner (e.g., DOE, DFMEA, PFMEA)
  • Completes project definitions

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

 

Education:    

  • BS degree in a technical field plus appropriate continuous training.

 

Experience:  

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or related field
  • Experience leading mid to large size manufacturing projects 
  • Recognized as a key resource or subject matter expert in manufacturing

 

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing engineering
  • Ability to solve complex problems and complete multiple projects, using systems thinking and advanced problem-solving methods to make decisions
  • Ability to apply proven technology independently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and office software skills
