Waste Treatment- Level 2 

Position Summary: 

At this level the associate has demonstrated the proficiency to work with limited help while maintaining performance objectives on standard work processes. This includes recognition of routine problems and the ability to keep the process running by making appropriate adjustments to correct the problems.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively use tools introduced at Learner Level in order to complete adjustments needed in the trainer’s absence. 

  • Makes sound decisions, on his/her own, to make adjustments when needed. 

  • Recognize and comply with all applicable Swagelok procedures. 

  • Understands applicable EPA, POTW, DOT, and OSHA regulations (i.e., meeting water discharge limits) and demonstrates the ability and understanding to immediately get proper assistance (i.e., Supervisor, Site Manager, ESC) if regulatory compliance may be affected. 

  • Under normal conditions the associate can operate the system and respond to normal variation following procedure. 

  • Have knowledge and understanding of wastewater collection system, tanks, related chemistries, and equipment controls. 

  • Understanding of pumps, piping, filters, valves, and instrumentation. 

  • Understands labeling and handling of standard waste and recognizes when to get assistance for non-standard waste. 

  • Ability to work with lab supervisors or lab technicians to determine if water is acceptable for release. 

  • Able to recognize when technical support is needed. 

  • Has a thorough understanding of flow patterns throughout the entire system. 

  • Demonstrates effective participation in Lean Events when given the opportunity. 

  • Ability to offer suggestions for making improvements to wastewater pretreatment operations. 

  • Can perform the job at this level with minimal questions or help. 

  • Makes decisions that do not adversely affect production. 

  • Can correctly answer any questions posed to him/her on above skills. 

  • Uses these skills in a timely fashion. 

  • Does not experience excessive down time and/or ask for help due to elementary problems that were overlooked. 

  • Adjustments are accurate there is no excessive time lost with multiple adjustments. 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

Required: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent 

  • Basic computer software skills (e.g. Microsoft Office).   

  • Able to read and follow work instructions.   

  • Basic understanding of plumbing, pneumatics, electrical, and hazardous waste.   

  • Familiar with operation of PLC interface screens. 

  • Requires the use of hand tools, SAP, and standard work.   

Preferred: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable environmental and safety regulations is desired.   

  • A mechanical background, knowledge of basic chemistry and some experience in Waste Treatment operations is desired.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. 

  • Will work with chemicals on a regular basis.   

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment including a full-face or half-mask respirator may be required while performing certain tasks.  

  • This position requires much physical activity. Some lifting and considerable standing, climbing stairs, stooping and bending is required.
